Our tuk tuk driver from yesterday promised to take us out to the country to his family home so he was waiting for us at 9:00 sharp this morning. We drove away from the city (population only 120,000) and down to a country village but we never did catch the name. His mother was cooking in the kitchen which is outside the house. They have cows right behind the house.

Neighbours make and sell palm wine so some locals were sitting around getting their morning buzz on. Again children, dogs and cows everywhere.

Another Super Model Cow. Maybe ours are just overweight from all the genetically modified hormones |
We walked along the road and saw several clean water wells donated by various persons and organizations. We saw a young boy fishing wtih a spear gun and he had a bag full of fish by the time we left.

We saw a couple of little tike with a plastic bag full of shells they scrape off the river bottom. The shells are found everywhere roasting on racks on the street and at markets. At first I thought they were nuts because they look like a small version of roasting chestnuts but upon closer look, they are shells so I guess they suck out the meat - nor sure.

We then walked along the local market street. Same as all markets but more rustic., Goods on the ground which was dirt for the most part.

This guy was in the mud when I disturbed him so he stood up |
We then went for lunch, bought a big stash of water because the hotel was was expensive and not very good. Sara then wanted to stay in during the hot afternoon so I walked to a large local Cambodian market. We were told not for tourists and I can understand why. I could hardly breathe with the huge baskets full of fish paste. It was a huge market and took me a while to navigate my way out so I took the first tuk tuk and headed to city centre to the Old Market. Again, like most markets but in a nicer part of town so I walked up and down the streets, stopped for a foot reflexology treatment and a pineapple shake (just fruit juice blended with ice but delicious and perfect for this weather, It has been a consistent 30C since we arrived in Cambodia. No rain but very humid.
I bought some fresh fruit for the room and looks like we may stay in tonight.
